Clindamycin and Procardia

Posted by GRiver1 on 09:47 3/28/2005:

My wife has been prescribed and has been taking clindamycin since her cerclage at 18 weeks. Cervix has shrunk from 3.0cm to 1.5 cm in the last 2 weeks and she has now been prescribed procardia but has had no contractions. She is very worried about being on the new drug as it has been implicated in animal studies to produce birth defects. In addition, one Dr wants her to continue the antibiotic and the other thinks she should stop.
Our questions:
1) SHould she be taking both of these?
2)Is there an increased risk of infection with her cerclage as the stiches become exposed and the cervix shortens? (Does she still need the clindamycin?)
3)Are there any risks from the Procardia and is it wise to be taking it in the absense of contractions?
