Newly pg with a question about Yoga/exercise (prev. child/surgery)

Posted by honeybear on 14:47 4/4/2005:

Brief history...in my first pg (2001) I had fetal surgery at 27 weeks (fetal open heart, not endoscopic, the real full fetal surgery) so I have a verital top-2-bottom incision in my uterus. 1st DD died shortly after birth. 2nd pg with current 2 year old perfect DD was troublefree and she was born via c-section at 36.5 weeks. I did not exercise during that pregnancy (I was very careful). OB said everything inside looked amazingly good.

I am now about 4 weeks pg and haven't seen my OB yet (waiting for u/s on the 12th to be released to OB). I want to remain more active during this pg.

Can you tell me if doing Yoga during the 1st trimester is acceptible? When should I modify and not do the ab work like crunches and stuff? I'm assuming other yoga positions like down dog, warrier and the leg work is OK. I will make more modifications and or only do pre-natal yoga after the 1st trimester. I"m mostly concerned about how/if to modify for the next 3-4 weeks.

I'll also do treadmill and some eliptical stuff a couple days a week but will watch my heart rate.

Any other advise on physical limitations given my fetal surgery (and 2 subsequent c-sections)? I'm in excellent health otherwise (and really don't exercise that much, I just do yoga once a week).

Thanks. - Cindi
