January 2001 performed by the wonderful docs Michael Harrison and Craig Albaneze at UCSF.

DD had an intrapericardial teratoma in the sac between her heart and lungs. 'We' had the first ever fetal open heart surgery. Baby was 90% removed, she had open heart surgery to remove the tumor and tucked back inside.

At 27 weeks (3 weeks after fetal surgery) I began suffering mirror syndroms (basically I became hydropic and suffered many complications including impending organ failure). It was getting dangerous so DD was delivered and lived for 2 hours.

Anatomically the heart was fine. Lung development was compromised due to the size of the tumor (bigger than a golf ball). She was a trooper and gave more in her short life to both medicine and many people than most of us ever will. Her name was Eden Joy and her/our surgery was filmed for MSNBC. Pretty amazing really - to have over 200 medical staff and MSNBC see more of me than anyone ever should!

Thanks for asking. Praying this pg is as uneventful as my last with my daughter Trinity Noelle (now 30 months).
