Preterm Contractions (Prev. Preg. Ment.)
Posted by MMK1 on 17:17 4/10/2005:
I am 22 weeks pregnant and just spent 5 days in the hospital. I was hospitalized because of preterm contractions and to try to control my supraventricular tachycardia. I was given Terbutaline, Magnesium sulfate and Indomethacin to help stop the contractions. Due to my Addison's disease and heart problems, I had problems with all three of these medications. Is there any other types of medications that can be used to help stop preterm contractions? Would 17P be helpful? Is 17P FDA approved? I am resting at home and continue to have numerous contractions a day. My high risk OB is planning to give me steroid shots at 24 weeks to help mature the baby's lungs. How beneficial are the steroid shots and how fast do they work? This is my second pregnancy. During my first pregnancy, I started bleeding at 12 weeks, had placenta abruption, premature labor, atrial fibrillation and my son was born at 35 weeks. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.
