wharton's jelly question

Posted by heath111 on 14:57 4/19/2005:

I posted on another forum and didn't really find the answer to my question. What happens to wharton's jelly after fetal death. I recently had a 38w stillbirth with a cord accident diagnosis (under an armpit and around the back of the neck very tightly). My OB said the cord looked a little thin but that there was no blood flow. The cord appeared to be about 1.5 cm in diameter (if I remember correctly). After reading about wharton's jelly I wonder if there wasn't enough and it allowed the cord to compress more easily. It would ease my mind in a subsequent pregnancy if the diameter of the cord appeared larger via u/s if the cause of this accident might have been too little.

Just a little history. 7 pregnancies. 1 total abruption at 34 weeks ending in stillbirth, 2 full term live births, 1 stillbirth 38w cord accident, 3 m/c. 3 sections, 1 VBAC.

Does having two stillbirths make me high risk? I feel pretty dang high risk but I may just have really bad luck. If I had my way I would just strap a heart monitor on a future kid for the last trimester but I know it isn't possible.

Heather
