dr, how to distinguish between PUPP and herpes gestationis?
Posted by AnM on 12:53 8/18/2005:
I am currently 12w pg and have been having a horribly itchy rash that does not go away with any over the counter meds. This is my fourth pregnancy, only one live child. I will soon see my perinatologist and a dermatologist but so far from my internet search it is very likely to be PUPP or the herpes thing. It does not quite fit the PUPPP desription - it started early, it started on my fingers and face first, spreading to random places like arms and abdomen and legs. But it looks like all the pictures and descriptions I've seen of it. My family doctor had no idea what it was except that it seemed to be of an allergic nature.
The reason I think the distinction between the two conditions is important is because there is a history of autoimmune disease in my family. I have a history of multiple pregnancy complications - IC, abruptions, persistent subchorionic hematomas, trisomies, etc (if that makes a difference)
Thanks dr!
