bright red bleeding at 14 weeks

Posted by MattsMommy on 12:56 8/21/2005:

During my previous pg (healthy 4 yr old now) I had a large subchorionic hematoma. It started with a gush of bright red blood at 14 weeks. Obviously it did resolve and I had a full term baby boy.

I'm currently 14 weeks as of today and yesterday evening I had that gush of red blood again. It filled 2 pads + and was everywhere. There was/is no pain at all. I had an u/s last night and the baby was practically doing flips and the heartrate was excellent and we're very thankful.

The doctor searched and searched the placenta and could find no pockets of fluid, or hematomas. He said everything looked "quite normal" other than my report of the bleeding.

I see my OB on Monday but I am wondering, can you bleed like that (suddenly and in large amounts) with no pain, and have no explanation? Are we most likely dealing with another subchorionic hematoma? I'm just wondering if the report of a "normal placenta" last night means we've escaped the subchorionic hematoma this time and if so, what else could have cause such a bleed (placenta previa was ruled out).

Thanks in advance.
