Early Contractions

Posted by stressed69 on 09:52 1/11/2006:

I was put on bedrest as a precautionary measure yesterday because of my history and present condition

History - 12yrs ago - miscarriage @ 10wks; 11yrs ago- subchorianic hemorrage 14wks & preterm labor 23 wks - delivery @ 37wks. Terb and Mag sulf given, bedrest and some hospitalization 28 wks

Present condition - Invitro pregnancy (tubal lig after 2nd child)16wks & contractions. 2 days ago I called my ob about contractions, lower abdominal pain, and slight increase in vag discharge (no color/odor/temp).

1st Ob said no problems (rude) Asked if I thought I was in labor- told him no just concerned about contractions and pain replied amused "No such thing as labor at 16 weeks. You're pregnant, cervix closed, 3rd pregnancy rough, but easier delivery - trade off." Worst vaginal exam ever!!! - resulted in small amount of brown discharge.

Next day, 2nd OB (normal 16wks check), cervix clear - small irritation old blood, cervical check- 3 1/2 cm (- not dilated) nor funneling per ultrasound, low lying placenta, but not previa. Contractions noted on ultrasound. "Precautionary measure" they put me on bedrest for 1 wk based on history and contractions.

Do I need a 3rd opinion? Different OB practice? Is this cause for concern? How likely am I to have a full term baby or carry to viability? Am I likely to have a late miscarriage?

Concerned,
Jennifer
