general question...

Posted by AnM on 11:10 5/5/2006:

Hello dr Cusick,

Currently not pregnant and in excellent health. Have a history of pregnancy complications that include placental abruption & persistent subchorionic hematomas. Unmedicated pregnancies end at ~4-5 months due to complications from continuous bleeding. Had 2 successful pregnancies on Lovenox, however no blood clotting disorder was positively identified. I have a family history of autoimmune disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple schlerosis)and pregnancy loss/complications - mostly in my generation and less so in my parent's.

For such patients, do you usually recommend more thorough detailed testing for blood clotting disorders later in life? Is that done with a hematologist? Or a rheumatologist? Or a cardiologist? Do patients with a history of preg. complications have higher chances of developing strokes or diabetes or other diseases later in life?

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to us on this board!
