Question about VonWillebrand disease while pg...(m

Posted by blessedmommy on 01:55 5/7/2006:

I am currently 5wks pgm and am wondering how risky this pg will be with this disease, and what your protocol and care plan would be.

I have had 2 easy and successful pg's in the past 5 yrs. Then, I had a 15 wk loss last Sept, fetus had normal male karotyping, normal chromosones, and all testing and placenta were good. Simply the heart stopped the week before. This began the testing on me.

I have had alot of tests...immune, hematology, thyroid etc. All are normal except mild hypothyroid (I am on meds for this now), a few seconds longer PTT, AND it looks like I may have Von Willebrand Disease, am factor VIII AND I also am hetero + for MTHFR.

Problem with conflicting info:
RE is saying (very well known and board certified) that I need to continue BA and Folgarg 2.2 mg, and then wanted me to start heparin immediately after + preg test, due to the MTHFR factor. But, then, aren't I at risk for hemaphilia from blood thinners, due to the longer PTT?.

Hematologist (also board certified) says that I should NOT take BA or Heparin due to the Von Willegard factor and longer clotting time, could cause me to become hemaphiliac. So, then I risk losing a pregnancy again.

Whose protocol should I follow? RE or HEM?

Do you know of any women who have successfully been pg, then had a healthy baby, with Von Willegard? What was their treatment?

Thank you so much, I am so very confused!
Kristi, 5w2d
