you want to ask the doc if she thinks that the reason for your prior section is likely to repeat itself in subsequent pg's, whether she merely doesn't do vbacs period, or whether the proper facilities are not available. Or, perhaps it is that the 14 months in between delivery is not long enough. There are lots of possible reasons, but whatever her reason, she should have explained that to you, so ask.

I have now had two successful vbacs (one twin delivery and one singleton) following my first singleton delivery, a c-section for breech. For me, the vbacs were far better than my section with regard to recovery. (My ds is 4 months old and I have not had any pain reliever since the day after the vbac.) While stitching me up after delivery, the doctor noted that my uterine scar (which only had single sutures, not the preferred double) appeared to be very secure, and that is very reassuring to me even though it was after the fact.

If there is no other medical indication for a section besides a prior section, I'd go for it, but your doc has to be comfortable - that is important (if your doc just doesn't do vbacs at all, and hasn't offered a medical reason, find another one who does and get their opinion on your case).

The link below is to a slide show discussing contraindications to vbac and the percentages of rupture in various situations - I found it extremely interesting.

good luck!
-beth
