With my last pregnancy my baby also had the diagnosis of echogenic bowel. He was first diagnosed during our level II u/s. His echogenic bowel didn't go away throughout my entire pregnancy - during the 27th week u/s & 32nd week u/s. I opted not to go through amnio, however I did have all the bloodwork you mentioned done to me - all was negative. I never stopped worrying about my child having Down's syndrome until I had him. I wish I never knew about echogenic bowel - this way I could had enjoyed my pregnancy more instead of worrying..
I don't want you to worry. Most likely your baby is FINE! I also had a very difficult time finding info on echogenic bowel.
My ds was born on 8-31-06. He is perfectly healthy & fine. His bowel is functioning fine! I do believe your baby will be alright, as well.. Sometimes using those high strength u/s mashines, doctors & techs can see maybe too much & they tend to worry us too much. Please, try not to worry, like I did. Enjoy your pregnancy & your little one growing inside you. I am sure amnio will confirm your baby's well-being..
Take care & good luck!
Aurie
