melanoma in situ in third trimester

Posted by amy3 on 12:42 11/18/2006:

This is my 3rd pregnancy. My first was IUI, second was IVF and this one was a surprise. Third one has been stress free until my dermatologist removed a melanoma in situ (stage 0 - clark's level 1) from my arm. Had wide level excision. HAve been examined head to toe and every crevice in between. All of this happened at the beginning of my third trimester.

1. Have been told this doesn't affect the baby in any way. Would it be prudent to test placenta and/or baby at birth? What would they do?

2. Any reason I would/would not want to nurse? I feel like the high estrogen may have accelerated this whole issue and am anxious to get my body back to normal. Also, strongly considering taking anti-anxiety medication for at least a few months til I get over this shock. Of course, I will be monitored by derm every 3 months.

Anything else to know?
Amy
