Melanoma in situ in third trimester

Posted by amy3 on 12:47 11/18/2006:

Dermatologist removed melanoma in situ (clark's level 1 - stage 0) from arm during third trimester. Had wide level excision. I have been told it poses no risk to baby.

1. Do you see any reason to test baby and/or placenta after birth? Of course, would rather err on the side of caution.

2. Do you see any reason why I should/should not nurse. Am worried that high level of estrogen caused this (or at least accelerated this) and am anxious to get my body back. Plus, am seriously considering taking anti-anxiety meds after baby is born til I get used to the shock of this whole thing.

Obviously I will be seeing derm every 3 months for skin checks and have been checked head to toe at this point.
