Hi Amy,
Yes it does get much easier. It comes and goes in waves. I have a family history of melanoma in-situ and many many moles so I felt like I was a ticking time bomb. My advice is stay off the internet-- much you will read are worst case scenarios and yours is the BEST case-scenario. Get photos done of your body if you have a lot of moles, for your reference. Get a good dermatologist, preferably at a "melanoma" clinic/hospital and get seen every 6 months.
Keep an eye on anything changing or new, but keep in mind I Have had over 30 spots removed, some changing some new, and many were benign, just a few atypical.
What did your spot look like and where was it?
Again, melanoma in-situ is basically 100% cure rate, it did not penetrate into the skin.
