Chronic Mononucleosis and Pregnancy
Posted by liscon on 14:43 1/22/2007:
I am age 22 and currently 11 wks with a singleton. TTC for 2 yrs, high FSH of 10.8, no reason found, successfully conceived on injectibles in Nov. I also have CAEBV (Chronic Active Epstein Barr Virus) since my first bout of mono at age 18, again at 19, continued with intermittent flu-like symptoms of fever, swollen glands, sore throat, drenching night sweats, extreme fatigue. Inf.disease MD did not believe in CAEBV until he saw me, my history, labs, and checked into it. My IgG and IgM are always elevated and indicate that I have Active Mononucleosis chronically. I was told there is no treatment, and given Provigil to keep me awake as I work 12hr shifts, which I am finding nearly impossible to continue. I am weak, dizzy, pale, of course the nausea, and profound fatigue (no Provigil now due to pg). OB office says they do not see pts until their 3rd month, so I have not even had my first OB appt yet. That will be on Wed. 1/24 at 11 weeks. I feel that I have been treated far too casually, or is the presence of this active virus in Pg truly of no concern? All I am told is that "now that you are pg, you will be even more fatigued." What shuold I ask for at my appt Wed? What shuold they be looking at and following? Is there a risk to the pg/baby? We just moved to Toledo so I will be seeing all new drs, any that you know of who might be able to deal with this? Do I need to be under the care of a MFM MD? Should they be communicating with an inf. disease specialist? Are there any in my area who acknowledge this condition and will address its ramifications in pg? Any advice appreciated, sorry this is so long. Thanks.
