high blood pressure after delivery? (child ment)

My b.p. during pregnancy was always around 120/80 or lower until the last couple weeks, it went up to about 140/85. When my son was 4 days old (normal vaginal birth at 38 weeks...he weighed 9.5 pounds) I felt some pressure in my chest/upper abdomen and felt like I wasn't breathing normally. Peri told me to go to ER...blood pressure was 178/98. They did a CT scan, chest x-ray, Ekg, took urine and blood samples. They didn't find anything unusual. No protein in urine. They gave me an IV for the blood pressure and sent me home. Two days later the pressure was about 150/86. Then two days after that I checked it at Wal-Mart and it was 170/100. I also had the weird sensation in my chest again. I called peri and he prescribed blood pressure medication (nifedical XL 30mg) and told me to come into the office in 4 days (two days from now). No one has checked my urine since I was in the ER 6 days ago. I am now 10 days postpartum. Is this preeclamsia and is there anything I should insist the doc check besides my blood pressure? I have been having severe headaches off and on but it could be because I have a bad head cold. Doc told me I could take excedrin but no decongestants.
