vasa previa is quite rare, not requiring a succenturiate lobe (more typically seen with early placenta previa that resolves during the pregnancy)
In experienced hands, vasa previa can be diagnosed at 18 weeks- it is our routine to document placental cord insertion site for this reason
Retained placenta is the classis risk
