ventriculomegaly

Posted by NICHUL37 on 17:35 3/31/2007:

20wks along - found isolated, bilateral ventriculomegaly measuring 14.7mm, 11-12mm, and 14mm on 3 different u/s (2nd 2 were level 2). Level 2 & 3-D u/s also confirmed cleft lip/palate. Waiting on FISH results as well as blood work - fetal MRI scheduled for 4/5. Quad screen normal, 30 yrs old.
Researching this & info from the mds has given us no real direction and no real answers. Is this child going to have severe mental and physical delays/abnormalities? Is he going to live a normal life? How severe could his developmental delays be? Possibility of needing a shunt? Possibility of increased fluid as preg. continutes? We already know about cleft repair, but with all these surgeries, is there going to be a chance he's going to have other complications? Are these two conditions related? I can't seem to find any stats on his chances of having a normal life. Is this going to happen again in a later pregnancy? Any help would be great. Thanks.
