Thick placenta risk?

Posted by 4Boys4Us on 21:26 1/16/2008:

I am currently pregnant with my 4th child (3rd viable pregnancy-1 set twins, 19 losses) and am now 20 1/2 weeks. At the last 3 ultrasounds we've noticed an unusually thick placenta (including one portion that seems even thicker than the rest--a bump of sorts). I asked the technician today to look at blood flow to it and he did, it was good and the cord insertion was good as well as everything else on the scan (baby is measuring ahead even).

Is a thick placenta on its own (with no IUGR or signs of fetal anomaly) still a cause for concern? I probably should not have googled it but I did and found it can come with a greatly increased risk of perinatal morbidity and that's the LAST thing on earth we need after so many losses.

The only problem I've had so far in this pregnancy is Hyperemesis Gravidarum (3rd time with it, had with my other 2 viable pregnancies as well). Beyond that all has been well, no protein in urine, no high blood pressure or blood sugar problems, no bleeding or anything else.

Any further info on the risks of thick placenta or direction to go from here would be appreciated. We're understandably nervous after so many losses.
