Dr. - We've been through 7 years of infertility and finally had a positive test result. We're anxiously refraining from telling our friends and family through this early stage, but felt better seeing a heartbeat on first ultrasound. 1. Once a heartbeat is seen (at 6.5 weeks) does that cause a statistical reduction in subsequent miscarriage rates? 2. When books and doctors discuss the first 3 months of pregnancy(regarding miscarriage), is that from last menstrual period or from conception? and 3. For high risk pregnancies in general, what week would you recommend the 2nd ultrasound? Thanks for any input.
