Default Diabetes and air travel?

Hi Dr. Cusick,

My mom is planning a family trip from California to Puerto Rico in April 2010. I am hoping to do ivf sometime between now and January (I am an INCIID Heart scholarship recipient and am just waiting to be matched with a doctor at this point). I am also "borderline" diabetic (A1c has been steadily at 6 for many years and I take 2000mg of metformin daily). My question is, is it considered safe to travel in an airplane at any time during pregnancy for someone like me? I hate to miss the trip but I would never want to raise any complications. And of course I would ask my physician before flying, but I was wondering what your thoughts are before my mom does any more planning.

Thanks for your help
