My husband and had unprotected sex for 5 years before getting pregnant and having a miscarriage. We then tried for 4 or five months and I became pregnant again. I was bleeding from day one and my doctor prescribed progesterone inserts "just in case". I had the bleeding until 12 weeks (forget the proper name for it) and stopped the inserts. I was premature 6 weeks but have a healthy 2 year old daughter. Sometimes i am three or for days late for my period but test negative for a home pregnancy test and then get my period. 95% of the time I am perfectly regular. Is it possible that I could use the inserts at some point "just in case"? most people who are infertile tell me to shut up- I have already had a child, it will happen. But I am already 40 and don't want to miss the boat for another baby. I had an hsg before my first pregnancy and have a possible hydrosalpinx and the other tube is supposed to be blocked. I was told to go to IVF. Was my first child a "miracle"? should I just keep trying?

Hi,
A lot of women are prescribed "empiric" progesterone as you described, so don't let people tell you to "shut up" just because you already have a child! It's important to discuss timing of taking the progesterone with your specialist, though, as it can possibly block ovulation if started too early in the menstrual cycle. Your HSG findings don't necessarily preclude having a child. They may, though, increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy and you should discuss that with your doctor if you haven't already done so. Good luck!!
