    Default Anyone know of (ADD)

a medication for ADD that DOES NOT decrease appetite!?!??!?!?
DD has tried ritalin, concerta and just recently Adderall......to no avail.
She gets ticked off when she has no appetite.

    Thanks!

Strattera is in a different class of drugs and more like an anti-depressant than a stimulant and shouldn't have the same effects on appetite. I think some kids can get a tummy ache when they start taking it and I've seen it recommended to start taking it at night.

Default My dd had no appetite on concerta or adderall...

She is taking Focalin right now and she has more appetite on it, but not like she does when she is totally off of it . Still, she can at least have something for lunch.

we tried that one sch year - DD ended up in in-house suspension for punching a girl. That was 2 wks of being on it - Dr wanted her to stay on it 30 days - told him to forget it.

Maybe I'll ck into that Focalin? Thx guys!

and it is suppose to cause fewer side effects. My DD takes the Focalin XR which is an extended release.

Yep, Focalin is an isomer of ritalin, sort of the mirror image of the chemical structure.

Suzi -- did you ever do the non-XR version of Focalin? We got slightly better results with the straight Focalin, but I hesitate going back onto something that requires a midday dose.

She doesn't want to be singled out at lunch to take her 2nd dose.

in our expereince, there was a huge difference between the generic versions and the name brand ones...not sure which you get. we had the least appetite affects from name brand concerta. we never tried focalin for dss. hope this helps some too. good luck
