Default Why cannot I find the right Psycholgist to help us?

I have attempted to find a Psychologist to help my older ds Grant who just turned 9. Over the past 3 years we have tried out 3 different Psychologists and none were the right fit. The first Dr. N seemed to help us the most emotionally but he did no testing in his office and kept hinting strongly that we do that for Grant (this was when Grant was in 1st grade and 7 yrs old). The 2nd therapist did play therapy, just not a good fit for Grant. And this last one, really wasted our time luckily it has only been 3 visits. But, all he did was confrim Grant's Asperger's dx and suggest I read Tony Atwoods(sp) book about Aspergers Never talked with Grant, and did not listen to what I said at all as we are looking for someone to help Grant deal with his feelings and the stress our family faces with two boys on the Spectrum.

The school's list of Psychologists only has a few other names besides those we have tried that accept our insurance. Any suggestions?
There is no support group ion our coutny and we cannto drive to Atlanta for therapy.

    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry. Its very frustrating when you feel like you are just floating out at sea. Have you tried the specialists at a Children's Hospital?

    Hi,
sorry that you and grant are dealing with this. THe only way we have found a good play therapist, and now a good psychiatrist is by recommendations from other parents or even other people involved in our daughter's care.

E's OT told us about the play therapist and the play therapist referred us to the psychiatrist.

    Good luck!

Thanks again. Looks like I have to drive, and pay out of pocket as our plan does not cover many of the well regarded names
