Default 2 unrelated questions for all of you ladies: (m)

1- What are your middle school girls carring for backpacks? Actual backpacks, Vera Bradley-type backpacks, cross-body bags, or tote-type bags?

2-What is the going rate for tutors, per hour, in your area?

    THANKS!

    Lea

1 - actual backpack, tho she was interested in a messenger bag type last year

2 - I don't know; we enjoy arguing about math homework so much, I'd hate to pay a tutor to have all that fun.

Default Don't have an answer to the first question, and

My dd is only going into 5th grade, but we got her a tutor at the end of 4th grade. She was my dd second grade teacher, still worked at the school, and her specialty was in math. She charged $40 an hour, which I thought was very reasonable.

    1) Real backpack (she's begging for a messenger back, but her books are too heavy and it's not good for her back).

    2) $90 - 100/ hour. Stinks. Private one on one tutor in your home. Math or reading same fee. (NYC to put it into perspective).

She is entering 7th grade and will use a totoe bag. I have a couple of vera bradley ones that she is going to try. For the past 3 years she used a messenger bag. I have not used a tutor yet.

    Default Messenger bag..

Notebooks/planner go back and forth. Math book comes home at the beginning of the year and remains at home. Other textbooks are online so not much book carrying going on here unlike when I was in school.

No experience with tutors so I can't help you. Depending on level, subject, and needs you can find student tutors through the National Honor Society or local colleges.

Regular backpack- too many books to carry comfortably on the bus with the other type of bags.

    No idea on tutoring- sorry!
