Default First day of school here...

They start early down here (GA). It was dark when my 2nd grader got on the bus at 6:30 so need to retake a pic of him.
All summer my 7th grader could not WAIT for school to resume, but was very nervous this morning. My 2nd grader told his teacher last week that he wanted, "2 more years of summer", yet he was excited this morning.

Default Wow. And I thought Aug 16 is early.

Glad your kiddos were excited. Hope the year goes well for them.

WOW! I thought our schools started early; one local district starts 8/6 and Emily starts back 8/13. The 8/6 school district gets two weeks for Fall Break, the usual two weeks for holidays, and two week Spring Break. All the schools here end before Memorial Day (depending on snow days).

    Happy back to school, Mom!

I really like the school calender 180 days of school

    Off Labor Day
    Week off Oct. 8-12
    Off Election Day
    Week off for Thanksgiving (19-23)
    Dec. 19-Jan2 off for Holidays
Off on Martin Luther King Jan.21
    Week off Feb.18-22
    Week off April 1-5
Last day of school May 23

So just August and March with only weekends but that is fine, and May flies by every year.

Wow interesting. So you are basically trading in 3 weeks of summer for 3 weeks off during the school year. Might be nice but I like our long summer vacation although it never seems to be very long. Seems shorter every year!

Okay so I was looking at your calendar and wondering how you had so much time off. Prompted me to check how many school days we had here (I thought we were around 180 as well). I was wrong 194. We start back 28 August and technically go through 21 June (the year is bookended by PD days). The kids will get two weeks off at Christmas and a week off in March (and normal statutory holidays).

I can't imagine returning to school any earlier than they do - although I guess it's what you grow used to.
